This time...we go to the New York Deli experience, right here in our own back yard...Rein's New York Style Deli in Vernon! Just like Aunt Sadie used to make in her kitchen...to warm our tummies.

For over thirty years it's been just like coming home - Rein's Deli, serving traditional New York style Jewish Deli...food that feeds the soul & warms the heart. TM

Founded in 1972, Rein's Deli was the answer to the search for a good corned beef sandwich by Bob Rein, who with his wife Betty and brother Bernie, brought authentic New York Style Jewish deli to New England.

At Rein's Deli in Vernon you may indulge yourself with their homemade soups, mounds of savory hot pastrami and corned beef on rye, hand-cut lox layered on cream cheese laden bagels, crisp potato pancakes, knishes, delectable cheese blintzes and creamy hand made cheesecake from New York. And that's just a sampling of their enormous menu!
It is a family owned and operated business where the customer is always # 1.You may select your favorite deli treat, cheeses, salads, and smoked fish, sandwiches, etc. And don't leave without taking a peek in their display case filled with the most heavenly homemade desserts. Any or all of their goodies are available to take home.

So, for those who know great deli, coming to Rein's Deli is like coming home. For the Rein and Hurwitz families and their staff at Rein's Restaurant, it's like opening their home to friends.

Please join us for a night in old New York.

Rein's is located at 435 Hartford Turnpike (Exit 65 off I-84), Vernon, CT 06066

Okay, so this isn't an Ethnic Dining experience but it's a worthy cause nonetheless!

Registration starts at 9:30am and the walk starts at 11am.

The website for this event is www.lupus.org. You can sign up for the walk and join my team: Kelly for the Cure.

This is the second time I have participated in this event. I was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 14 years old and have received wonderful care and treatment due to fundraising efforts like this. You can find my fundraising page at http://firstgiving.com/kellysutterfieldlupus.. If you are curious and want to learn more about Lupus, there is an informational sheet at http://www.lupus.org/webmodules/webarticlesnet/articlefiles/2456-about-lupus.pdf.

I am looking for people to walk with my team and/or donate toward the cause. I understand that times are tough right now with many people being out of work. If you would like to support this cause, I would love to have a walking partner. Or if you can't walk with me that day but want to lend your support, donations don't need to be large. If everyone I ask donates just $1, I would meet my goal. I appreciate your support! Thanks!

One of our members suggested Barca (Pronounced Barsa) which was enthusiastically seconded by a few others. I checked their website "www.barcahartford.com/hours.html" and it looks great! Located at 1429 Park St on the corner of Bartholomew St where the parking lot is (across from the restaurant). Parking is also on the street if you can find a spot.

We will be meeting on a TUESDAY this time at 6:30pm for those who'd like to get a drink or appetizer from the "Happy Hour" (ends at 7:00pm) menu. We will be ordering dinner at 7:00pm, and try not to arrive any later than that, please allow for traffic and parking, thanks.

I will collect $1.00 from attendees to defray costs of running this group. - Betsy

Several members suggested going back to Haveli India, since I missed it I'll be enjoyning their food for the first time. The website is: http://www.haveliindia.com/haveli_india.htm I think we should dine and discuss affairs of state in this Haveli on April Fool's Day! So who in the state has had affairs?

I HAVE CHANGED THIS RESERVATION TO 3 TABLES OF 10 EACH (30 guests) BECAUSE IT IS SO POPULAR!

As always, I will collect $1.00 from each person - but will donate the money to FoodShare this time. You may donate as much as you'd like for this worthy cause.

This is a little blurb abut it:
Havelis developed in India in ancient times as royal houses where Royal guests would stay and be entertained. In later eras they would also become merchant homes or homes of the wealthy. But, their initial evolution was where the royal families and selected ministers got together in a congenial environment to discuss affairs of state, as they dined and were entertained. The custom was for hundreds of the best cooks and entertainers to be brought from around the state to serve the royal families and their guests. The entertainment and the food was always the best the state had to offer. And because of the number of cooks they were known to try new and creative dishes to distinguish themselves before the royal family. It is because of this beginning that Haveli's over time became known as keepers of Indian traditions and cuisines.

This restaurant is BYOB (bring your own bottle). Not much parking, so if anyone wants to car pool, post it on teh event site or in your RSVP.

As always, I hope to see you there. I will collect $1.00 from anyone who would like to contribute toward defraying the costs of running this meetup.

The Polish National Home was suggested by one of our members who said she goes there for lunch and it is always quite good. The Hartford Courant calls it the best kept secret in Hartford - large portions of good polish food for small prices.

Parking is plentiful in their own lot. It is an older building that doesn't look like a restaurant, but is a "Hidden Gem" according to Metromix. I don't know anything more about it.

Sounds like good food at good prices to me, and of course we will all find good company at our table to share the good times with. I will collect $1.00 from attendees who wish to contribute toward the costs of running this meetup.

Hope to see you there! - Betsy

As always, if you RSVP "YES" - PLEASE SHOW UP!! Anyone who changes their RSVP to "NO" from "YES" less than 48 hours before the dinner will be considered a NO SHOW, and 3 no-show's will automatically terminate you from our group.
