Are you tired of always nagging your significant other to take that cooking class at the local community center? Are you frustrated with recipes that serve 3-5 when you're only cooking for yourself? Do you find yourself forgetting to eat dinner or hitting the drive-in for another meal-on-the-run that you hardly notice eating because of your hectic schedule?

Maybe you should stop trying to please everyone else but yourself and join us for a night of Brazilian cuisine! We'll wisk you away to the endless beaches of Rio De Janeiro, where you'll be treated to some of the finest culinary delights that South America has to offer - almost! Don't make excuses - Select "Yes" on the RSVP and start treating yourself with more compassion today!

Michelle has graciously offered to entertain us with her own interpretation of the famous Bossa Nova song, "The Girl From Ipanema" if at least 15 members join us for what I'm sure will be a night you'll not soon forget!

What more can Michelle do to convince you that it's time to broaden your dining horizons and "spice" up your life? Don't let another fabulous dining event go by without you! Take your body to Chale Ipanema and let the friendly staff take your mind hundreds of miles south to a place where dining is a significant part of the culture, not a necessity to squeeze in between responding to e-mails and family obligations!

Although the exterior leaves a bit to be desired, inside you will find the decor pleasantly surprising and the service as friendly as you'll find. Chef-owner Nelson Diorio is a native of Rio de Janeiro and serves up excellent Old World cuisine with a New World touch. Just so you know, sides that were once served dried are now replaced with fresh fruits and vegetables. Try the duck, which is roasted and topped with fresh orange slices, dusted with chopped Brazil nuts, and served with green beans, carrots, and pan-roasted potatoes. A variety of desserts are available if you have room!

The organizer of the Boston Ethnic Dining Meetup (Al) contacted me wanting to know if our group would be interested in a group event. I said, of course!

We will be visiting Boston's Italian North End for some authentic cuisine at Dom's Restaurant (www.domsboston.com). Dinner will be family style, and we will ask everyone to pay a set price ($38 including tax and tip), which includes appetizers and the main course. PLEASE BRING CASH, as we get a discount for cash only.

Here's the menu we have selected:

Appetizers: salad and mozzarella with proscuitto and tomatoes
Main courses: fish with puttanesca sauce, chicken Sienese, veal Parmagiana, and ravioli.

They also have a good wine list, and excellent desserts can be found at any number of Italian bakeries in the area.

A few of us will be heading to Boston earlier that day to enjoy the city for a bit before dinner. If you are interested in this, please let me know in your RSVP.

**PLEASE RSVP YOUR FINAL RESPONSE BY TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 so that we can make the appropriate reservation.**

Dom's has been around for over 30 years and has received excellent reviews from Zagat's.

I know what you're thinking......what does a guitar concert have to do with Ethnic Dining? Well, I'll tell you.........Michelle is the organizer of the Ethnic Dining Group.......and besides being a self-described "fabulous" vocalist, also happens to be an accomplished violinist and guitarist! Michelle thought everyone should know about this event. There won't necessarily be a coordination of the event by EDEMG however, Michelle thought it would be a good idea to post the event for your convenience and planning efforts.

I was told this week that Ethiopian food is excellent, and Lalibela was recommended by the New Haven contingency. It's cheap, great food, and has an entire vegetarian/vegan menu for the plant eaters in the group.

I'm scheduling this well in advance since New Haven is a drive for many of you. (By the way, there is free parking near the restaurant.)

There has been a request for sushi at this particular restaurant, and I have heard many good things about it.

Here's a recent write-up in the Advocate: http://www.hartfordadvocate.com/gbase/Dining/content.html?oid=oid:139587

and their menu:

They also have plenty of other dishes if you are squeamish about sushi.

This place has spicy Southern soul food. It's supposed to be low-key and simple, but the food delicious. Citysearch gives it a 9.3, and I've heard others say it's great.

This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area. Their chicken raam, drunken noodle, and pad thai are excellent!
