All who joined us for Christmas dinner LOVED China Pan. There were just too many choices not to return again. I thought it would be nice to open this up to people who weren't able to go on Christmas Day. Border's is next door, so we can walk over afterward. The menu is huge, and service is great. If you're vegetarian, you may have a difficult time trying to decide what to get. Authentic and extensive menu.

Great Caribbean food in their new location on Main Street. Caribbean cuisine is a blend of the various cuisines whose cultures have influenced the region. There are hints of Spanish, African, and Indian flavors in the food, which is usually a bit spicy. The menu here is very simple. Aside from a few American items like fried chicken, the meals are authentic Caribbean food served with cabbage, rice, and plantains. Dishes here are served in small, medium and large sizes. If you're really hungry, go with the large. Otherwise, the medium will probably be enough to satiate you. Try the jerk chicken, jerk pork, fish dishes, meat patties and exotic sodas. Service tends to be a little slow, but the food is worth the wait.

I decided to put this event off until after the holidays but have been looking forward to this since the middle of November! One of our members, Dawn, recommended this restaurant. Here is what their website http://www.sallysfis hcamp.com has to say: "Critics say Hartford's newest restaurant is "off the hook". It is a blend of cool urban chic and New England Fish Camp. I spoke with Debbie, the manager, and because we have a large group, we have to stick to a predetermined menu so the chef can prepare accordingly. Each person will pay $39, which includes tax and gratuity. The choices for food are as follows: $39 per guest (inclusive of tax and gratuity) First Course: Mixed Greens tossed with julienne carrots, tomatoes, chopped cucumbers and balsamic vinaigrette or Caesar salad with fresh shaved parmesan, garlic croutons and camp?s Caesar dressing or New England Clam Chowder Entrees: Pan Seared Hanger Steak with garlic herb butter, fries, and baby carrots or Pine Nut & Parmesan crusted breast of chicken over mashed potatoes and haricot verts, with a garlic herb veloute or Dijon & Brown Sugar Glazed Salmon with haricot verts over wild rice or Linguini alla vongole: little neck clams steamed in parsley, olive oil, garlic, and white wine over linguini or New England Lobster Roll on a grilled top loader with drawn butter accompanied by Camp fries and slaw or Campfire Grilled Trout over wild rice and julienne vegetables in a tomato saffron mussel broth Dessert Chocolate S?mores Tart or Vanilla Bean Crème Brulée or Warm Apple Cranberry Tart topped with walnuts with house-made cinnamon ice cream Coffee or soda Please keep an eye on your RSVP. If you cannot attend or are not sure, please don't RSVP. I have a feeling that a lot of people will want to attend this event. Let's make sure that everyone who RSVPs actually comes.

I've been dying to try this restaurant. It's billed as Mediterranean and the menu looks really interesting, especially the "small dishes" of Applewood Smoked Bacon Figs, Garlicky Shrimp, Morrocan Cigars..and more. Check it out here. Organizer, Judy

I am hosting the Hartford NFL Meetup 12/29/07, to watch the Patriots make history with a win over the Giants in High Def (40" TV) at my house. I am making pasta with zesty tomato sauce. Guests are to bring salad & dressing, chips & dip, etc. RSVP at http://nflfootball.m eetup.com/62/calenda r/6970609/ My address/directions will be sent to YES RSVP's only. Since there are only 6 spots (5 left) please only RSVP if you are DEINITELY going to be there! You must sign up on the Hartford NFL site (I marked this Dining site for only one guest - myself so that I will not double-book anyone or have more than I can fit in my den). - Betsy

Great Italian food - no "innovative" or "fusion" dishes - just the classics. Pure authentic Italian comfort food. Good portions, great garlic bread and awesome deserts (if you still have room). Organizer: Judy

Pho Boston's reputation is well deserved in the W. Hartford area (Elmwood). If you're in the mood for healthy, satisfying fare this is a restaurant you don't want to miss. The menu is quite extensive and the food is really, really good. The cold weather makes it a great time to try from their variety of huge bowls of beef, chicken or veggie soups. The appetizers, and noodle dishes are great too. (This is my favorite restaurant, can you tell?). Reviews here --Judy, Organizer
