Papacito's Mexican Grill BYOB (Laurel)

Mexican food is always a good meal and Papacito's Mexican Grill in Lakeview makes it much better by being a BYOB restaurant.

Cozy, comfortable and laid-back in the extreme, the menu touts Mexican comfort food with a twist but is at its best when it sticks to the basics. We started off with the Queso Papacito's, a stone crock filled with a bubbly assemblage of cheese, beans, and chorizo. The homemade chips and salsa were stellar accompaniments; try the salsa de fuego only if you're brave. The chicken enchiladas--moist, tender, and baked to a golden brown cheese crust--were a standout, as was the carne asada, juicy, cooked perfectly to order and reasonably priced to boot. A slice of the tres leches cake, drizzled with chocolate sauce and pleasingly mellow, was a wonderful finish. Papacito's is BYO but offers homemade limonada and horchada.
