Why So Serious?

The sequel to Batman Begins is finally ready to be released on July 18. We will be seeing it on Saturday the 26th.

Of all the superhero movies (Spiderman, Superman, X-Men, The Hulk and Iron Man) that have been released in the last few years, Batman is my absolute favorite. There's something about a psychotic millionaire fighting equally sick criminals that rings true and full of reality. Reminds me so much of our own Mayor Bloomberg!

Please note that this event will be slightly different. Due to the interest expressed, I have moved this event to a Saturday evening and will NOT be hosting dinner. Instead we will meet at a bar (TBD) for an hour of drinks/appetizers/frivolity/crime fighting and then head to the movie.

***Also, since I am expecting that we may have a large turnout, I am increasing the number of RSVP's to 100. The name, location of the bar and bat time to meet will be emailed only to members who've RSVP'ed YES by 1PM the day of the event.. Please NOTE that RSVP's will be closed at 1PM the day of the event so don't forget to UPDATE it before then.***

As always, all members will pay for whatever they order. And our standard attendance policies will still apply.

SYNOPSIS:
The Dark Knight" reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. In the new film, Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of lieutenant Jim Gordon and district attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as the Joker!

[Michael Caine on Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker] The worry going in was The Joker. Jack Nicholson was the greatest Joker so, you know, how do you top that? Well, Heath Ledger's done it and he's extraordinary. He's gone in a completely different direction to Jack. Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath is like a really scary psychopath. I did one scene with him and he was ready to go and had to come up in a lift and raid our place. I didn't see him for rehearsal and when he came out of the lift he was so incredible I forgot my lines. He frightened the life out of me. I'd never met him before. He's a lovely guy and his Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture.
