Have you recently had a down day or sustained misfortune? My young friend Adam Shepard has written "Scratch Beginnings" a memoir detailing his rags-to-fancier-rags journey in search of the American Dream. Starting with $25 and the clothes on his back Adam took a train to Charleston SC where he voluntarily entered a homeless shelter. His goal was to obtain $2500, a car and a furnished apartment without the aid of credit, contacts or his college diploma. You will have the opportunity to meet Omar, Bubblegum, Kevin, Diana and a cast of characters you have likely never encountered. In your mind's eye what is your take on a homeless shelter? Can you imagine spending several months in this predicament?
Adam is from Raleigh where he graduated from Athens Drive High and subsequently obtained a basketball scholarship to Merrimack College in Massachusetts. He values entrepreneurship and is on a pathway to market "Scratch Beginnings" nationwide.
"Scratch Beginnings" is a fascinating read, fast paced and humorous, which will be featured on The Today Show Feb. 26 8-9 am and Fox News Feb. 27. Adam has appeared on 42 radio talk shows and also in the New York Post and the Christian Science Monitor. From the 440 Beltline, take Six Forks Road North 4.6 miles to Forum Drive on the left. Go 0.6 miles on Forum Drive. At the top of the hill, turn left on to Health Park. You will see a shopping center under construction on the right. Go past the main entrance and drive downhill to the rear of the building to reach the entrance to the ground floor conference room.
