from nymag.com:

Buenos Aires meets Barcelona at this ambient restaurant that attracts a model-y, cocktail-swilling crowd with groove-spinning DJs and a lively bar scene. Recessed lights cast a soft glow onto chocolate-hued banquettes, flickering candles sit on shelves built into brick walls, and heavy brown curtains muffle the beer-fueled antics outside on First Avenue. Dark-wood panels are carved with the leafy branches of the zarzamora, or blackberry bush, after which the place is named. As for the food, “the meats are from Argentina, and the tapas from Spain,” says Spaniard Mario Larrea, one of four co-owners, all with roots in the club industry. Thanks to Chef Jorge Rodriguez (formerly of Chimichurri) the fusion fare manages to upstage its sexy surroundings. Pulpo, or octopus, reveals rosy tentacles unfurled on a bed of white beans. Citrusy ceviches, including sweet lobster studded with diced mango, are charmingly accompanied by a bowl of popcorn. The juicy Patagonian rib eye satisfies, as do the crocantitos, crispy calamari drizzled in honey. The make-your-own sangrias, spiked with coconut rum and peach puree, ensure sauced merriment well into the night.

Reading your comments and feedback from Danna, I think there was a strong misunderstanding. La Zarza is the correct name of the restaurant and it is located on 166 1st Ave. 7 attendees enjoyed their evening with Danna as the hostess. Ted, while I understand you were upset, your comments toward Danna and DeborahC were a bit unfair and disrespectful. I ask you to be more mindful towards the Asst Organizer and other members of this meetup group. (continued in the next post)

Dear Ted, La Zarza is the restaurant right next to the one you went to "Lanza". The address is correct, and if you google the name you will find it in fact exists. A few people did not show up but there were in fact 7 of us present. It is possible that you may have gone to the incorrect address since the reference you used was 01/2008. Irregardless, this message board should not be an outlet for angry messages. Your deposit is with Komal, please ask her for the refund. thank you.

THERE IS NO LISTING IN THE YELLOW PAGES, THE WHITE PAGES OR WITH TIME WARNER (MY TELEPHONE SV) FOR "LA ZARZA RESTAURANT". HOWEVER, IN THE WHITE PAGES AND WITH TIME W., IS "LANZA RESTAURANT" AT 168 1ST AV., AND IN LARGE #'S OVER THEIR ENTRANCE IS 166, AND THEY R ON 1ST AVE. PHONE # [masked], PAGE 827 IN THE 1/2008 WHITE PAGES. DEBORAH C SAYS THERE WERE 7 PEOPLE THERE & THE REPORT SAYS 10, WITH ME AMONG THEM. SHE'S HALLUCINATING!

There were 7 of us at this restaurant called La Zarza, on 10th St. and 1st Ave. I was the first one to arrive, and yes, that is the name- NOT Lanza! We all had a lovely dinner and enjoyed each other's company. Danna was a great hostess. I have no idea what Ted is talking about. Clearly, he went to the wrong place and should apologize for his error/comments.

WHEN I FINISHED MY DINNER , BY 7:45, INCLUDING MY 2ND CUP OF COFFEE, I APOLOGIZED TOTHE OWNER, WHO, AT MY REQUEST (THERE WAS NO RES.) HAD SET UP A TABLE FOR 12, PAID MY BILL + A 30% TIP AND LEFT A LITTLE AFTER 8PM, & NO ONE FROM THIS GROUP HAD YET SHOWN UP. THE LIST IS IS IS BOGUS. DANA LOOKS LIKE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN BUT BEING AN ORGANIZER IS DEFINITELY NOT, NOT, NOT,HER CALLING. SHE'S NO KOMAL. I SURE MISS KOMAL. SHE KNEW HOW TO DO THE JOB & NOT HAVE TO LIE ABOUT IT AFTERWARDS.
