This is a once in a lifetime event: A live video feed from Mission Control will be projected on the ceiling of Chabot Observatory's planetarium in the Oakland hills showing the landing of the spacecraft Phoenix as it happens between 3:45 PM and 5:45 PM! There is a charge of admission to the Chabot center which is adult, $13; senior or student, $10; youth (3-12) $9; members, free. We now have our own bus from AC Transit that will pick us up at the Fruitvale BART station at 2:30 PM. Try to arrive at 2:15 PM so you don't miss the bus. I hope most people decide to take our bus as I promised AC Transit that we would have at least 20 passengers. Bus fare is $1.75 for adults, $.85 for youth (5-17), seniors (65+), and disabled. We will be standing near the #53 bus stop, and I will be bring a bunch of meetup signs. Parking is for free on Sundays at the Fruitvale BART Station. We will probably arrive by our bus at Chabot Observatory at 3 PM and be in front of the front door area between 3:00 and 3:15 PM. There will be hundreds of people at Chabot, and to help people find us we will have name tags and meetup signs. Also, we have a bus at 6:10 PM to take us back to the Fruitvale BART Station. Who attended?

    •  I got there early and never managed to find the group, but I enjoyed exploring the Chabot Center and seeing the Mars landing at the planetarium.
    •  It was exciting and interesting.
    •  We had 26 of us on our very own bus from Fruitvale BART to Chabot Observatory to watch Phoenix land on Mars. Our bus had the words 'special VIP Shuttle' spelled in lights around it. About another 10 of our group met us at Chabot. We had 26 of us returning on the bus.
    •  Bummer, I missed it. Got there about 3:20pm and couldn't find the group. Tickets were also sold out!

I would have never known about this event if I hadn't of joined this group. My 6 year-old daughter and I had an awesome time! Although we ended up driving their ourselves, we really appreciated the option of the bus (opposite direction for us, however). Very cool experience all around. Thank you for organizing!
