Red Star Tavern & Roast House, this Thurs., 5/22, 7 P.M.

Red Star Tavern and Roast House is a classic Portland gathering spot, home to Northwest-inspired new American meals, decedent desserts, signature cocktails and a selection of single malt scotches and small batch bourbons. Executive Chef Tom Dunklin has created a menu with locally-sourced ingredients, using an aromatic wood-fired brick oven, rotisserie, smoker and sizzling grill in the open exhibition kitchen and a dining room and bar lined with warm wood, golden lights and colorful murals. Set in a historic building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Alder Street, Red Star's magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows show off its glow of warm, golden hues, dark woods and high ceilings, drawing guests in to the restaurant's bustling conviviality. (They even validate two hours of parking at the next door Hotel Monaco.)

NEW AMERICAN CUISINE
The exhibition kitchen is the focal point of this spacious yet inviting 200-seat room. Executive Chef Tom Dunklin takes full advantage of a wealth of local and regional ingredients from local farmers and sustainable agriculture. The result is such mouthwatering dishes as the infamous Roast House Iron Skillet Cornbread with Wildflower Honey Butter, Rotisserie Dry Aged American Buffalo Prime Rib with 'Dirty' Rice Spaeztle and Juniper Jus and Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir Jus and Bananas and Bourbon or Coffee and Doughnuts.

HAND-CRAFTED COCKTAILS
In addition to the wonderful flavors of the menu, Red Star serves hand-crafted cocktails (like its well-known Red Star, the Cadillac of all drops), 12 local microbrews on tap and a complete list of select American wines, highlighting those from the Northwest.
