Potluck BBQ at Ben's House

We are trying for something different. I have decided to host a potluck BBQ at my house. I have a good size grill so if you want to bring something to grill, we can do that. I have an oven to bake things. Not everyone has to bring main dish. We do need salad, desert and appetizers.

I have a small house but I do have a big back yard so I won't limit the number of people, unless it gets out of control. After or during the event, we can also do a movie (I have a large screen TV) and/or do Karaoke. If Tim comes and brings his Wii or PS3, we can even play games.

If you are planning on attending, please post a note saying what you would bring so we don't duplicate too many things. I will provide softdrinks/beer/wine as well as some food.

Please contact me if you have something special you want to bring or need help with something.

Few days before the event, I will send out my address to those who replied with YES.

The usual rule applies, if you RSVP yes and don't show up, you may be on a waiting list on next full event. I hope to see you here.

EDIT: I decided to limit this to 40 people. I don't think I have enough room at my small house to accommodate more. You are welcome to join when someone drops out. Thanks for the patience.

I didn't get an address either...I'd be coming from the dublin/pleasanton area so I'd need to know where I'm going in advance...

Does any body know where Ben's place is?

Hi Rita.... In the US (yes, it's different other places) "grilling" is faster cooking over direct heat, and "BBQ" is slooower cooking with indirect heat +/or smoke. I'd guess 90% of times "BBQ" is uttered it actually refers to "grilling". I know I do that :)

Now I must ask. Canadians are not picky about grill or bbq - we happy so long as the weather is good enough for either one :-) So- tell me the diff ? I need to know as I promised to bring something to "grill"...

OK, just a few things about this event. First, to answer Kirk's question, we will be grilling, not BBQ. It seems that most people are bringing appetizers, salad and desert. I hope to have enough grilling types for 40 people. If you want to bring something to grill, you are most welcome to do so. I hope to see you there.

    •  FIrst rate - the best of its kind! Thanks to Ben for opening his dig to all of us and feeding us silly. What a generous host!

Ben is a very kind and sharing person! He barbecued for the whole group. Salmon, cajun chicken, sausages, tri tip, filet mignon. Very generous. Suggested we pitch him for the food next time.

Ben is a great host & a great cook! We had lots of yummy food today! We went to many restaurants before, but I think Ben's BBQ is the best! I like the idea of sharing the costs with Ben next time too!
    •  Awesome food and great people and conversation. Ben is a terrific host!
    •  Ben, I am speechless!! What an awesome party you had put up. You are just an awesome host and generous to a fault!! What a great get together. Everyone walked away feeling happy, satisfied and fed. Great group of people you have and I am positive everyone at the event are just awed by the great event you throw for your group. You are truely the Grand Foodie!! My hats off to you.

It was a great potluck party. People are very nice and variety of great food, not American hamburgers and dogs. In addition, Ben is a great cook!

Ben was a gracious host and provided a lot of excellent food. He also did a SUPER job cooking; it was all tasty and flavorful! The guests also brought lots of great food. There was something for everyone.
    •  People suggeste we collect recipies and I emailed most everyone to ask for recipies cause there is no way to just "email all". I will post the results in the Files section of the meetup group. Sorry if I missed someone or emailed 2x. Not a trivial thing to attempt post-event.
    •  soo much flavorful food. Ben you are an awesome cook. Thanks for being so generous with hosting the whole event. We all had a blast eating non stop including the potluck everyone brought.
